A change with foresight

Sebastian Groppweis (43) takes over management of the maxit Group

maxit Group management has been handed over to the next generation of entrepreneurs: Sebastian Groppweis (43), an experienced engineer and son of the previous managing director Hans-Dieter Groppweis (74), is taking over the reins of the company. Together with him, Sebastian Groppweis has been co-owner and managing director of Kalkwerk Johann Bergmann GmbH & Co. for many years. The company, founded in 1908, holds fifty percent of the shares in the maxit Group. For this reason, the decision to make the change comes as no surprise, but is a logical step to secure the future of the family-run business. “At Bergmann Kalk, I have gained a wealth of experience that will enable me to fully embrace my new leadership role – despite all the challenges that the market currently presents,” explains Sebastian Groppweis. However, Groppweis Senior will remain with the company in an advisory capacity and as managing partner at Bergmann Kalk.

Bergmann Kalk is now in its fourth generation of family ownership: Katharina, Sebastian, Hans-Dieter, and Julia Groppweis (from left to right) each hold their own management positions.

All important decisions concerning the maxit Group's locations are made at its headquarters in Azendorf. The founding company, Bergmann Kalk, is also based here.

As a diversified specialist in construction products for floors, walls, facades, and ceilings, the maxit Group has repeatedly set new trends in the industry in recent years and decades. With the appointment of Sebastian Groppweis (43) to the management board, the medium-sized company not only wants to strengthen its innovative power, but also create prospects for the future. The company remains family-run in its fourth generation, with sisters Katharina and Julia Groppweis also taking on management roles. "We want to offer long-standing and new partners, employees, and customers unconditional reliability, even in difficult times. At the same time, it is important to us to actively shape the future of the industry and enrich it with sustainable, improved products," says Sebastian Groppweis, describing his vision, which is undoubtedly shared by his father and former maxit managing director Hans-Dieter Groppweis. The latter continues to actively support him as an advisor and managing partner at shareholder Bergmann Kalk.

Successfully continuing the story

The foundation stone for today's maxit Group was laid in Azendorf, Franconia, with the establishment of Franken Maxit GmbH in 1978 by Kalkwerk Mathis GmbH & Co. and Kalkwerk Johann Bergmann GmbH & Co. Under the leadership of Hans-Dieter Groppweis, the company has expanded steadily over the past decades and has set several milestones, such as the development of the “maxit mörtelpad” in 2016 and the “maxit ecosphere technology” in 2018. The latter earned the developers a nomination for the "Deutscher Zukunftspreis" in 2020, as well as several specialist awards such as the “Architects' Darling Award.” In the meantime, further innovations have emerged from the “maxit innovation forge,” as the father-son duo has made a conscious decision to invest in sustainable future technology. Hans-Dieter and Sebastian Groppweis have been jointly managing Bergmann Kalk since 2017. This means that the company remains in familiar hands.
