Fire protection | European Patent Office Vienna
Fire protection – tested and fast
The use of maxit ip 160 for fire protection reinforcement proved to be the optimal choice. In addition to meeting all test requirements and technical specifications, the short installation time was a decisive advantage of this product.
Reinforced concrete ceilings from the 1970s
The European Patent Office on Rennweg in Vienna underwent renovation in November 2022 with a focus on sustainability.
Given the lack of concrete covering on the reinforced concrete ceilings from the 1970s, which were constructed using a reinforced concrete skeleton structure, the completely gutted building had to be upgraded in terms of fire protection. The fire protection requirements covered both the choice of materials and the design workability. Particular attention was paid to avoiding the use of panel materials altogether. Another challenge was posed by the CFRP lamellas that had to be plastered over, which were bonded to the underside of the reinforced concrete ceilings in certain areas to increase the load-bearing capacity.
Upgrading with maxit ip 160
A simple, gypsum-free and, above all, tested solution was sought to professionally plaster over the bonded CFRP slats. The choice fell on maxit ip 160 fire protection plaster. With this purely mineral, ecological and, at the same time, very easy-to-use product, the complex task on this construction site could be implemented efficiently, economically and in a short time.
maxit ip 160 was applied in a layer thickness of approx. 20 mm to the existing ceilings and the CFRP slats covered with ribbed expanded metal. The surface was finished to quality level Q2. Finally, the ceiling soffit was given an opaque coat of paint.
